There are a total of four candidates indicating intentions to run for two open seats on the Hollister City Council, while two of those residents still must submit final paperwork to make their presence official on the November ballot, according to the city clerk’s office.

The two open seats are for District 2 and District 3 representation.

In District 2, covering the west side, incumbent Councilwoman Eugenia Sanchez has announced she will not run for office. If that is the case, the 5 p.m. Friday deadline for candidacy would get extended five days until Wednesday.

In that district, former Councilman Robert Scattini, defeated by Sanchez in 2006, will make another run at the office. He has submitted all of the necessary paperwork and signatures. A challenger, Sergio Montanez, has submitted paperwork indicating his intention to run but must turn in signatures as well, City Clerk Geri Johnson said.

In District 3, largely the south-central portion of the city, incumbent Councilwoman Pauline Valdivia is running for a fourth term. Prospective challenger Scott McPhail, director of the Purple Cross medical marijuana dispensary, has pulled paperwork to run for the seat, Johnson noted. Potential candidates in District 3 do, indeed, have until 5 p.m. Friday to submit documents.
