New SV Media Inc., the South Valley’s leading publisher of newspapers and specialty publications, has completed the acquisition of Out & About magazine. The free monthly joins a family of publications that includes the Gilroy Dispatch, Morgan Hill Times, Hollister Free Lance, Good Times in Santa Cruz and Metro in Silicon Valley.
“We look forward to building on Out & About’s mission of providing useful information about upcoming events and activities,” said Free Lance Publisher Jeff Mitchell. “Out & About clearly had become a popular read and had established widespread distribution in the South Valley. It complements our home-delivered model well. We now offer comprehensive coverage of our communities at home, as well as with convenient guides that will be visible in areas where people go to shop and spend free time.“
The publication was started in 2000 by former Bay Area Parent production manager Sylvia Myrvold and sold to Bobbi Jo Palmer Productions in 2010. Myrvold, a Morgan Hill native, remained as editor but will be retiring to Southern California to be closer to her children.
Bobbi Jo Palmer, a Gilroy resident active in the Gilroy Rotary club and as a board member of the Gilroy Art Alliance, will remain as Out & About’s publisher.
New SV Media features editor Kristi Parker Johnson, who formerly served as editorial director of a Texas-based magazine and newspaper group that included the Killeen Daily Herald, will become editor of Out & About.
Out & About also publishes an annual Visitor’s Guide to South Santa Clara Valley, San Benito County and surrounding areas, as well as a regional Wine and Dine guide.
