YMCA gets grant
HOLLISTER
– The YMCA of San Benito County received a $2,500 grant from
PepisCo in support of its health and wellness programs related to
YMCA Activate America, a long-term initiative designed to
strengthen and promote YMCA’s abilities to help Americans live
healthier lives.
The grant money will be used to offer two free community events.
The first is Healthy Kids Day, scheduled for April 17, 2010. It
will also support America on the Move, Sept. 20-27, as well as free
Healthy Seeker Workshops, which will be offered the first Tuesday
of every month.
PepsiCo donated $1 million to 400 YMCAs across the country.
”
Through our long-term alliance, PepsiCo and the YMCA share a
common goal to find better ways to help Americans lead healthier,
more active lifestyles, said Stephanie Rath, a senior marketing
manager of PepsiCo Health and Wellness Team.
”
Working together, we have tremendous potential to encourage
individuals and families to become more physically active and make
better nutritional choices across the country.
”
The goal of the Activate America program is to help YMCAs better
support individuals who try to make a commitment to healthy living,
but who are unable to sustain it; reduce community barriers and
increase community support for healthy living; and collaborate
across public, private and nonprofit sectors to make an impact on
the nation’s health crisis.
”
We are very grateful for PepsiCo’s support of our health and
wellness initiatives,
”
said Rochelle Callis, the executive director of the YMCA of San
Benito County.
”
They know, as we do, that to reverse the obesity epidemic,
Americans must change the dangerous course of physical inactivity
and poor nutrition that threatens the long-term health of our
country.
”
YMCA of San Benito County will be offering the first of its free
health seekers workshops Sept. 1 at 7 p.m., at the YMCA office on
Fifth Street. The first meeting will discuss local fruits,
