Elections whoops

The San Benito County Elections Department put out a statement this week indicating that there is an error on the upcoming election ballots.

Ardyss Golden, the sixth candidate in the San Benito High School district trustees race, is ineligible.

Through no fault of her own, she does not meet the requirement of living in the district

Grant applications due

San Benito Youth Services, Inc. is accepting applications for youth program grants throughout the community. Past recipients include Friends of the Library, San Justo School, and the San Benito Stage Company. Grant amounts are $200-500 for individuals and up to $2,000 for organizations. “We want to help any worthwhile venture that will make this an even better community,” said Mark Steele, president of the San Benito Youth Services, Inc., board of directors. Spring break trip

San Benito High students in Spanish 3 and 4, as well as Spanish speakers are invited to join Spanish teacher Rachel Flores for a spring break trip to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico April 5-13, 2007. Club Ed Tutors

San Benito High School’s Club Ed Tutors offer help in math, reading, science and Spanish Monday through Thursday from 3-4 p.m. or 6-8 p.m. at an hourly rate at the school library. Flush away old toilets

The San Benito County Water District is giving away free toilets to water customers with toilets from before 1992 who are water customers in the city of Hollister, Sunnyslope County Water District or the city of San Juan Bautista. They will be giving out toilets Sat., Nov. 4 from 8 a.m. to noon. Old toilets must be turned over to SBCWD within 45 days of receiving the new toilet. For more information, call 831-637-4378.

Farr receives high rating

The American Association of University Women rated Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel) 100 percent on their annual scoring of Congress members. The AAUW voted on ten different issues including health services for servicewomen, the federal marriage amendment and voting rights act reauthorization. The professional organization has more than 100,000 members who advocate a progressive agenda on issues surrounding education, social services, economic justice and political equity.

Field day Sunday

Eating with the Seasons is hosting a field day on Sunday, October 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is invited to join the hosts for a day of fun with local farmers and producers. They will be touring a few farms, pick strawberries and relax for a picnic. Guests are asked to bring water, containers for strawberries, a picnic lunch for themselves and their families and a light jacket in case the weather requires one.
