Mayan story of creation told in ‘Popol Vuh: Heart of Heaven’

El Teatro Campesino’s crowd-pleasing pageant of the Mayan creation story, “Popol Vuh: Heart of Heaven,” returns, showing at 3 p.m. Aug. 23-24, 30-31 and Sept. 1 at the San Juan Soccer Field, 100 Nyland Drive in San Juan Bautista. And for the first time, the presentation will be shown in Hollister at 3 p.m. Sept. 6-7 at Dunne Park.

My heart breaks each time a client calls to say their loved one has passed away. Whether their spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, or child, the call is always hard. The disbelief and unimaginable grief is cloaked with a sense of urgent purpose to tend to practical issues more easily understood. In that moment, I just want to love them, comfort them and help make sense of their life ahead.

Hollister man dies after Morgan Hill accident

An 89-year-old Hollister man died in a traffic accident in south Morgan Hill on Aug. 16, according to police. 

The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office identified the fatal victim as Vincent Romano. 

Morgan Hill police said the two-vehicle accident on Monterey Road near the intersection of Middle Avenue is still under investigation. 

Preliminary police reports show the accident happened about 11:40 a.m. Aug. 16. Two vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lane of Monterey Road, briefly trapping an occupant inside one. It is unknown if Romano was a driver or passenger, or if any other injuries were reported.
