The Hollister Police Department has officially hired Bo Leland as a new school resource officer, the department announced last week.

As most Californians know, there is only one consolidated city-county in the state, San Francisco. The other 57 counties have 481 cities and towns within their borders; San Benito County has only two, Hollister and San Juan Bautista. A good case can be made for making San Benito the second consolidated city-county in the state to improve our economic and political future and to ensure that the residents of Hollister are fairly represented at the county level.

The Hollister Fire Department has announced the start of a new Career Explorer program involving teens and young adults interested in the fire service.
Getting Out: Find your path at Calero County Park
The trail map of Calero County Park resembles an interlocking network of loops that allows a hiker to string them together in any number of ways. Any trail you choose will, at some point, present you with the option of continuing on and circling back or starting a new loop that itself will loop 360 degrees back to the same junction. Since our next Mt. Tallac Challenge prep hike is at Calero County Park, I decided to revisit familiar trails as well as walk some new ground.
Despite empty reservoirs, groundwater supply remains ample
The two primary reservoirs for San Benito County residents are all but bone dry these days, but a local water district official did note that the area’s ample groundwater basin would last for years before reaching dangerously low levels.
