CHP to conduct checkpoint Saturday

With help from a grant, the California Highway Patrol's Gilroy-Hollister office is conducting a DUI checkpoint Saturday in south Santa Clara County, according to the CHP.

Briefs: Fourth of July Kiddie Parade

The annual Kiddie Parade will be held July 4 at 10 a.m. The Kiddie Parade will begin in the commuter parking lot at Veterans Memorial Park on Memorial Drive where it will continue north on Memorial Drive to Marguerite Maze Middle School.

Caltrans begins roadwork east of Gilroy

A California Department of Transportation project to upgrade a section of State Route 152 seven miles east of Gilroy is expected to cause delays to local motorists during the evenings and weekends. Work has started and will continue until March 2014.

Mayor’s goal for police deal is $1M-plus in savings

Mayor Ignacio Velazquez said he wants to see at least $500,000 in savings to move ahead with a law enforcement contract involving the Hollister Police Department and San Benito County Sheriff’s Office.

Top 5: Early Days, historical society meeting and more

Early Days: The San Juan State Historic Park will host an early days event June 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in San Juan Bautista. The activities will feature docent dressed in period costumes, crafts and cooking demonstrations. Hollister recreation’s use of school facilities in limbo

It looks as though the relatively new Hollister school board doesn’t have much patience for a long-held partnership with the city involving the rental of facilities for recreation programs. And it appears that trustees are concerned about a range of “little issues” that have accumulated through the years rather than one primary concern, according to the school board president.

Blotter: Hit-and-run DUI suspected on Meridian

At 12:07 a.m., Hollister police officers responded to a report of disorderly conduct involving alcohol on McCarthy Street. They arrested a 26-year-old male.
