Free fingerprinting for children

Assemblyman Luis A. Alejo, D-Salinas, and the Gilroy California Highway Patrol are partnering to invite local families to have their child fingerprinted for free at the Mexican American Community Services Agency's 7th Annual “Dia Del Niño.”

County designates fire stations as ‘safe surrender sites’

The county has established four area fire stations as "safe surrender sites" where parents can brings infants within 72 hours of their birth rather than abandoning them, according to an announcement from the Hollister Police Department.

It’s official: Baby animal season is here

Welcome the first babies of the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center's “baby season” – six tiny opossums just four-inches long (not counting their tail), all under 50 grams (the weight of two AA batteries) when they arrived with their eyes still closed. They were found on the ground in Gilroy, possibly abandoned because their mother had been killed or maybe she had simply left them for a short time while she foraged for food.

Top 5: Pancake breakfast, art event and more

4-H Pancake breakfast: San Benito County 4-H will host a pancake breakfast April 21, from 7 a.m. to noon at Bolado Park. The meal is $5 per person and includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, potatoes, milk and juice. The annual breakfast is hosted by all the 4-H groups in the county and will benefit programs.
