Shelter offering cats for $10 this month

The Hollister Animal Shelter is selling cats for $10 the rest of this month, as it has a group of “really nice” adult felines in need of adoption, according to the shelter manager.

Local plays make for an odd pair

Two local theater groups both have shows opening Friday night. The Fifth Wall Theater Project will open an original play based on the “Alice in Wonderland” story while San Benito Stage Company will become the first amateur theater group to present “Spamalot” on the Central Coast.

Herring gull rescued from blood-sucking leeches

The first person who called the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center last month to report an injured juvenile herring gull in Gilroy thought the bird had been shot in the face with a pellet gun. A short while later, another call was received about the same gull from a person who believed it to have been hit head-first by a vehicle.

On Sunday, five boys from Cub Scout Pack 455 in Hollister were the recipients of the Arrow of Light Award, the highest honor given at this level before becoming Boy Scouts. The honorees were Bryce Perino, Kevin Medina, Evan Duran, Christopher Engelhardt and Miguel Perez.

Starting out in 1992 with a single RE/MAX office in Gilroy, Vargas quickly grew his brokerage from five to 40 agents. In 1996, Vargas joined forces with Century 21/Premier Group, eventually overseeing five offices and two-hundred agents. Vargas currently serves on the board of directors for MLS.com and the Mexican American Golf Association.

Toys For Tots drive successful

Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, the leading real estate company in the Bay Area, announced today that it collected 5,112 toys and 2,152 coats this holiday season to benefit families in need throughout Northern California. The annual Toys for Tots and Operation: One Warm Coat collection campaigns this holiday season marked the 26th consecutive year that Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage has supported the efforts in partnership with the United States Marine Corps Reserve and several non-profit organizations throughout Northern California. The Gilroy office collected 172 toys and 98 coats, and the Morgan Hill office collected 100 toys and 150 coats.
