Rabid, dead bat found at Hollister Methodist church
On Wednesday, animal control officers with the Hollister Police Department Animal Care and Services Bureau responded to the Hollister Methodist United Church at 521 Monterey St. for a deceased bat, and lab testing confirmed it was infected with the rabies virus, according to the HPD.

Police probe recent motel robberies; clerk stabbed at Cinderella
The Wiebe Motel and Cinderella Motel were both robbed in recent days – resulting in a clerk being stabbed and flown to a hospital – and police believe the two incidents might have been related.

Spotted Wild Cats Spotted
Re: the recent story in the Times about a bobcat seen near Easy Street in Morgan Hill. These beautiful felines are indeed living amongst us. They’re becoming more “urbanized” because development is encroaching on their native habitats and driving them further into residential areas. They are searching for food and water. Bobcats are shy, solitary animals and will not attack humans, if left alone.
Alleged puppy killer incompetent for trial, for now
The Gilroy man who’s been in custody since May 2011 for allegedly killing his wife’s 6-week-old Chihuahua puppy was deemed incompetent to continue on to trial – for now at least – according to Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Troy Benson.
Jury convicts Hoffmeister for 2007 murder
A jury Thursday convicted Travis J. Hoffmeister of murdering 20-year-old Hollister resident Christella Macias in June 2007.
Feds inspect Saint Louise Hospital
Saint Louise Regional Hospital has acknowledged “serious deficiencies” with its contracted dialysis services, resulting in the suspension of the hospital’s status as a provider to meet Medicare conditions for participation, according to a Feb. 28 letter addressed to Hospital CEO Joanne E. Allen from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
