The NFL will play its regular season this year as a new collective bargaining agreement is reached and the labor dispute comes to a conclusion.

The news was celebrated by millions of fantasy football players who were worried they were going to be stuck interacting with their families all season.

COLTS, PATS EMBRACE (TO AN EXTENT)

Indianapolis Colts center Jeff Saturday credited, thanked and hugged New England Patriots owner Bob Kraft for his leadership in helping to resolve the labor issue.

It was a touching scene. But, clearly, this agreement would never have been reached if it required hugging Bill Belichick.

PHILADELPHIA FAVRE?

Rumor has it that the Eagles are interested in exploring the possibility of bringing Brett Favre in as a backup quarterback to Michael Vick. Wow. This could turn into a real dog-and-phony show.

QUARTERBACK PROTECTION

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was married on Saturday. Security was very tight in order to keep the event private. In fact, it was the second-most guarded event in recent Pittsburgh history, next to Roethlisberger’s bachelor party.

A SPECIAL ‘K’

Tim Wakefield joined Roger Clemens as the only Red Sox pitchers to strike out 2,000 batters. There are some similarities. Wakefield is best known for his knuckleball and Clemens sometimes behaved like a knucklehead.

HIGH-WATER MARK FOR SLAM DUNKS

The Navy has approved a men’s college basketball game between North Carolina and Michigan State to be played on the USS Carl Vinson on Veterans Day.

Sounds good, but if Roy Williams or Tom Izzo is ejected and asked to leave the premises, they better hope there’s a lifeboat handy.

‘EVANS’ IS AUSTRALIAN FOR CLEAN CYCLIST

Cadel Evans became the first Australian to win the Tour de France. For once, there seems to be no hint of a drug scandal, although some say Evans tested positive for vegemite.
