“We Americans or citizens have the right to vote. This inalienable right should not be discarded because it is not “convenient” as justified by our busy schedules. The last election turnout numbers astounded me. I know that finding time on election day is difficult. I have had times when I was either out of town or the country for that matter on election day. I still voted.

I would like to bring to your attention that we have access to our voting rights beyond the polls. I am talking about absentee ballots. If you request to receive an absentee ballot, as I have, you receive it typically two weeks (or more) prior to election day. This allows time for you to review, make a decision and cast your ballot for the cost of a stamp, or if you prefer, you can drop your ballot off at a polling place on election day.

I urge everyone who can vote to vote.

You can even request permanent absentee voter status, and you will always receive the ballot in your mailbox. All that is required of you is to punch out the chads with a pen or pencil, taking care to remove them. It is quite easy. Place it in the provided envelope, paste a stamp and drop it with your usual outgoing mail. You do not have to wait until the last minute. You can contact the county clerk’s office, or when you receive your sample ballot, the information card is on the back. You just need to detach and sign the card and return it to the clerk’s office in person or by mail.

This is not another chore that is required of you. Protect your future and that of your children. Vote.
