William C. “Bill” Bengard died at Community Hospital in Monterey on November 25, 2002. He was 74.

Mr. Bengard, a native of King City, was reared in Hollister and lived in Monterey for the past 15 years. He graduated from San Benito High School and Gavilan College. He worked with PG&E for 40 years and retired as an Electric T & D General Foreman. He was a member of the Monterey Elks Lodge.

Mr. Bengard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mert Bengard of Monterey, his children, Tim Bengard of Paso Robles, Lyn Kropp of Prunedale, Gail Bengard of Carmel Valley and Karen Bengard of Mt. View. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A Mass of the Resurrection was held at Mission San Juan Bautista on Nov. 29. Contributions are preferred to the Paul Mortuary Pacific Association, 1475 S, Bascom, Campbell, Ca 95008 or Hospice P.O. Box 1798 Monterey, 93942.

Crespin Vazquez

Crespin “Chris” Vazquez, a Hollister veteran and avid golfer, died Nov. 28, 2002 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He was 57.

Mr. Vazquez was born in Gilroy and graduated from Lincoln High School in San Jose and West Valley Community College. He served in the U.S. Air Force prior to the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Hillside Christian Fellowship of Hollister, the 393 Golf Club of San Jose, the Los Amigos Golf Club in San Jose and Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. He coached P.A.L. football in San Jose and once worked with Jim McMahan, who went on to become an NFL quarterback.

Mr. Vazquez worked for F.M.C. in San Jose and most recently for Read Rite Corp. in Fremont.

He is survived by his wife Pat Vazquez of Hollister, children Matthew S. Vazquez and Mitchell Vazquez of Hollister, two grandchildren, siblings Helen Stewart of Nevada, Esther Duncan of Georgia, David Vazquez of San Jose, Isaac Vazquez of Lindsey, Lupe Vazquez and Aurora Custodia of Hollister, 47 nieces and nephews, 62 great nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

The funeral was Tuesday at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home with graveside services at Calvary Cemetery. Contributions are preferred to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Celia Garcia Ceja

Celia Garcia Ceja died Nov. 29, 2002 at St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy. She was 66.

Mrs. Ceja was born in Tarimoro, Michoacan, Mexico. She had been a resident of San Benito County for nearly 20 years and member of Old Mission San Juan Bautista. Prior to becoming ill she was employed with Botelho and Perry Fruit.

She is survived by her husband, Salvador Garcia of Los Angeles, her children, Juan Garcia of San Juan Bautista, Carmen Garcia of Oxnard, Alejandro Garcia of San Juan Bautista, Rosa Mendoza of Oxnard, Socorro Mendoza of Mexico, Mariano Garcia of Hollister, Mara Salcedo of Atwater, Celia Garcia of Oxnard, Salvador Garcia Jr. of Hollister and Jose Garcia of San Juan Bautista, her brothers and sisters, Antonia Ceja of Merced, Isidro Ceja of Merced, Maria Ceja of Merced, Sotero Ceja of Merced, Andres Ceja of Merced, Elena Ceja of Mexico and Olivia Ceja of Mexico. She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The funeral was Dec. 3 at Mission San Juan Bautista. Interment and graveside services were at San Juan Cemetery.

Paul A. Colvin

Paul A. Colvin, a Hollister resident for the past 16 years and employee of PG&E, died suddenly Nov. 23, 2002. He was 54.

Mr. Colvin is survived by his wife Lois Colvin of Hollister, children Leonard, Heidi, Christine and Allen, mother Gertrude Colvin of Murphy’s, siblings Bill, Nancy and Kathy and six grandchildren.

Mr. Colvin was looking forward to retiring in Oklahoma, where he and his wife had bought a hilltop ranch. He enjoyed working on computers and satellite equipment in his spare time.

By his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Arrangements for cremation are through Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home. Contributions are preferred to the Hazel Hawkins Northside Convalescent Hospital Fund c/o the mortuary.
