Head elections official Joe Paul Gonzalez said minutes ago it should take “at least” another two hours for workers to finish counting ballots from precincts – meaning tonight’s counting likely won’t get finished until close to 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Gonzalez earlier in the night said there would be a delay for San Benito County’s results due to extraordinarily high turnout and officials not having access to the counting machine until 7:30 p.m., when they finally could tabulate results.

“It’s because the turnout was so big, and this was such a huge ballot,” Gonzalez said at the courthouse as workers scrambled to get ballots counted.

Estimated Gonzalez, “We’re quite a ways away, at least two hours.”
