Hollister City Council members are set to receive a report Jan. 26 on third-quarter sales-tax revenue – an indicator of economic health with potential to affect budgeting if figures sway significantly one way or the other.

“I can’t imagine it will be hugely positive,” City Manager Clint Quilter said today of the next revenue presentation by a consultant, Diamond Bar-based HdL Companies.

Although local sales-tax figures for the quarter are not expected to be all that great, Quilter said it will not necessarily equate to program or service cuts.

“It’s the overall trend going throughout the year,” he said. “We might have to look to being more conservative on certain things.”

He added, however, that Measure T revenue from the prior quarter was “a little higher than we thought” and he hopes that trend continues into the third-quarter numbers.

Measure T was approved by voters in November 2007 and took effect in April to help pay for ailing community services such as police and fire departments through a 1 percent tax hike.
