Galaxy All-Star Cheerleading will be holding placements and tryouts for the upcoming competitive seasons on April 26-27 for boys and girls ages 3-18. On April 25, there will be an informational meeting for parents at the gym located at 874 Industrial Drive, Suite B in Hollister.

Registration will be held April 26 for all ages from 6-9 p.m. The skills and routines clinic will be held on April 27.

Softball clinic

Gavilan College will be holding a softball clinic April 24 for girls ages 6-16 at the Gavilan softball field. Session I runs from 10 a.m. to noon, and session II runs 1-3 p.m.

The clinic will provide instruction in hitting, bunting, throwing, catching, infield and outfield play and base running. It will be taught by Gavilan College softball coaches. The cost is $20 per session. Details: Call (408) 848-4894.

Softball tournament

A men’s slow-pitch tournament for “D” and novice teams will be held at DeLaveaga Park in Santa Cruz on April 24. The format will be double elimination. Details: Call Louie Walters at 464-0738.

Football Camp

The First Annual Jeff Garcia Football Camp for kids will be held June 15-16 at Valley Christian High School in San Jose. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. The total cost per camper is $125 for both days. The camp stresses detailed teaching for basic skills and fundamentals in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. It is is a non-contact program. The staff includes top local college and high school coaches as well as current and past NFL players. Details: Call (408) 535-0144.

Softball tournEY

Hollister Heat will be holding the Fastpitch Classic Tournament on May 29-30. The Nor-Cal ASA Junior Olympic pre-qualifier is open to Class A teams of for ages 16U, 14U, 12U and 10U and Class B teams of ages 14U, 12U and 10U. Five games are guaranteed. The registration fee is $325 and $305 if received by May 7.

Literacy Run

The Annual Run for Literacy will be held June 12 in San Juan Bautista. All proceeds go to the Adult Literacy Program of San Benito County. There are three races – a 10K run, a 5K run and a 5K walk. Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in standard age categories. The entry fee includes T-shirt and water bottle. The cost is $25 if registered by June 8 or $28 after. Basketball camp

The 9th Annual Basketball Jones Hoops Camp will be held Aug. 2-6 at Rancho Middle School. The camp runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is open to boys and girls ages 7-15. Pop Warner

Hollister Youth Football and Cheer teams have been completely filled by mail-in registrations. However, wait lists are still open for the following groups: 12 to 14 years old: (95 to 145 pounds), 15 years old (95 to 125 pounds), 12 to 14 years old (95 to 145 pounds) and 15 years old (95 to 125 pounds)

If there are enough applications for cheerleaders ages 9-14 and enough help a large-sized squad will be formed to allow more girls to cheer.

All-Star Hoops camp

Final applications are now being evaluated for the Ten-Star All-Star Summer Basketball Camp in Thousand Oaks.

The camp is by invitation only. Boys and girls ages 10-19 are eligible to apply. Players from 50 states attended the 2003 camp. Basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American team. Details: Call (704) 373-0873.
