Only one match remains.

The San Benito Lady ‘Balers continued their storybook season on Tuesday by defeating visiting Alisal at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club 6-1, and clinched at least co-ownership of the league title.

The win now puts San Benito at 11-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League, 15-0 overall.

Only Thursday’s match at Salinas stands in the way of the Lady ‘Balers now. Earlier this season on Oct. 2, San Benito edged the Cowboys 4-3, which has been the only loss Salinas has suffered this year.

The Lady ‘Balers have already iced at least a share of the TCAL crown. If they defeat Salinas Thursday, they’ll win the league outright.

“We’re moving in the right direction,” coach Ed Cecena said. “Everyone is playing well. We’ll just see what happens.”

On Tuesday, the doubles swept with No. 1 team Elena Fata and Rachel Maheu defeating Victoria King and Anna Vergara 6-1, 6-0. The No. 2 team of Marisa Ibarra and Crystal Perreira won their match 6-2, 6-1 against Amanda Salazar and Cynthia Rodriguez, while the No. 3 team of Bri Ahumada-Wolfsmith and Rachel Smith defeated Vavida Alvarez and Nancy Tiznado 7-5, 6-3.

“Everybody just rolled,” Cecena said.

In singles, No. 1 Amanda Marshall cruised 6-1, 6-2 against Annabel Quintozo, and Yumi Chang won her match against Nicole Saldana 6-1, 6-0.

No. 3 Kaitlyn O’Keefe won 6-1, 6-1 to Cindy Leong, and Salinas’ No. 4 singles player, Brandy Saldana, beat Abby Woods 6-1, 2-6, 12-10.

“Abby had a tough match,” the coach said. “That No. 4 player for Alisal is their most consistent player, so Abby was up against a pretty good opponent.

“But that’s OK. It’s a learning experience.”

The Lady ‘Balers will play for the TCAL title on Thursday at Salinas at 3:30 p.m. On Monday and Tuesday, the TCAL Tournament will commence.
