Hollister Little League celebrated the start of its 54th season with its annual Opening Ceremonies at Veteran’s Memorial Park last Friday. Nearly 700 children on more than 60 teams from t-ball through the new Junior League for 13- and 14-year-olds took part in the event.

Teams were escorted onto the field by members of the San Benito High School varsity baseball team, most of which played Little League on those same fields. Fr. Rudy Ruiz of Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Catholic Church gave the benediction and Ed Moakler, league president, presided over the annual ceremonies, which drew a standing-room-only crowd. A fireworks show capped off the evening’s events.

The season kicked off Saturday, March 29 with regularly scheduled games and will run through June, with games every day but Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park. For a complete schedule or more information, go to the league’s Web site, www.eteamz.com/hollister.
