Guest View: Launch local ‘People Committee’
Let’s minimize the hospital visits and get our community healthy. We should have workshops and programs for the people to get help and get healthy. We need to help the people. Health is one of the most important things in our lives. Getting fit and eating right. I have been getting fit and healthy for a few years now and it really has changed my life. I want the people of my community and especially the kids to be able to learn and get the proper knowledge on what they are putting into their bodies. What are we eating and feeding our children; we don’t know what’s in McDonald's, and all these fast food restaurants. There should be classes to teach the kids and the adults. It should also be free to the community. I am here to plan for the future and help. We can put notices in the city and county water bill of when the class will take place, and send flyers home with students from school. There are many ways to go about it and it’s something that will really help out our community.

In November 2014, the voters in the Hollister School District approved Measure M, a $28.5 million bond measure. Measure M was a “Proposition 39” bond measure. Proposition 39 allows for bond measures to gain voter approval with 55% of the voters in the district in favor of the measure. Unlike most other bond measures in California, which require 66% voter approval, Proposition 39 bonds allow a lower voter threshold for approval, with some conditions.
Guest View: Thankful for a great holiday
It’s Thanksgiving again and it’s still my favorite holiday because it’s a four-day weekend for lots of working stiffs, there’s no gift-giving pressure, minor family disputes are put on hold, a couple of football games are on TV and it’s acceptable—no, it’s expected—that you’ll eat yourself into a stupor. What’s bad about any of that?
Guest View: Supervisors Botelho, Rivas reaffirm support for Measure J
We are writing to set the record straight. Supervisor Margie Barrios said at the last San Juan Bautista City Council meeting (Oct 21, 2014) when that council endorsed Measure J, that some of her fellow supervisors are "now rethinking their decisions after all the information that has come out" — suggesting that we're distancing themselves from support of Measure J. This could not be further from the truth.
Letter: Stunned, confused
Just a few days ago my mailbox spilled the usual handful of print items, one of which showed a great deal of promise, I thought. Since I had been attending many Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital (HHMH) board meetings plus community meetings among interested individuals,...
Free Lance Editorial: Council takes easy road with 5-cent mileage
Hollister officials have proven once again - in their decision to charge a police captain 5 cents a mile to commute 100 miles round trip in a patrol car - that they have no collective backbone.
