Free Lance Editorial: Wood punishment seems fair

While it appears as though former sheriff candidate and Hollister police Sgt. Ray Wood will receive a fair penalty of six months in jail for embezzling from the officers' union, it is also good to see that same union has addressed its lacking oversight on financial matters.

Pinnacle Editorial: County right to support developers of MegaWatt project

San Benito County officials have followed a wise path by encouraging private solar development while taking a hands-off policy toward public-private partnerships undertaken by other local governments.

Letter: Vote against the party that wants to limit patient protection

The group that controls the House of Representatives and wants control of the Senate and White House has this partial agenda: 1. Lower taxes on America’s top 1 percent. 2. Give control of medical care back to insurance companies. 3. Replace Medicare with the Ryan voucher system. 4. Pay off the National Debt with cuts to government programs, not tax money. 5. Destroy all unions and the benefits they bring our society. 6. Eliminate all government controls except for women’s health. Why would Americans give serious thought or even one vote to this group?

Editorial: Hollister should set geographic limits for safety workers

Police Capt. Carlos Reynoso's use of a taxpayer-funded patrol car for his daily commute to and from work – around 100 miles round trip – underscores that the city needs a policy requiring newly hired, sworn, public-safety personnel to live in or near Hollister.

Guest View: To ‘B’ (bond) or not to ‘B’

“To be, or not to be — that is the question: Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune or to take arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing end them.” Isn’t Shakespeare great! And isn’t this still the question, to “B” or not to “B”?

Pinnacle Editorial: Downtown businesses should use courthouse construction to spur economy

San Benito County is about to get a significant economic boost with construction of the San Benito County Courthouse, and the activity should reemphasize the importance of keeping this monumental project downtown.
