The NABA’s Outlaws knew exactly what they had to do to pick up a win in Wednesday’s second game of the league championship series. Play solid defense and focus on not letting the Diablos up off of the mat.

The Outlaws got the defense they were looking for on Wednesday. Not only that, the team’s bats were alive in Game Two as well. And, when the dust settled on the crucial second game, it was the Outlaws who were left standing with a 4-3 victory over the powerhouse Diablos.

“(The Diablos) were hitting the ball but we just played them perfect,” said Outlaws coach Alex Garcia. “Everybody on our team was playing good defense, we didn’t have any errors and we got a couple of key strikeouts when we needed them.”

The Outlaws wasted no time in getting on the board Wednesday.

In the game’s opening inning, with Garcia on first base, Charlie Gutierez, who blasted a three-run homer in Tuesday’s game, connected for an RBI triple that plated Garcia and gave the Outlaws the 1-0 edge.

Gutierez was brought in later on in the inning thanks to a base knock up the middle by Brock Prather.

The Outlaws wrapped up their scoring late in the game on a single down the first base line from Pablo Gutierez that brought Luis Garcia across.

While Garcia represented the team’s final run of the game, it was his performance on the mound that made the biggest difference for the Outlaws. Garcia went eight solid innings for the winning team before Ryan Sullivan came in in the ninth to close things out.

“We had a great defensive outing today,” coach Garcia said after Wednesday’s season-ending game. “It was a close 4-3 game and that’s about as good as it gets. But the defense was the key. We really came up big and it seemed like everybody made a big out.”
