The Hardball Basic’s 18U Patriots baseball team defeated the Bulldogs 10-8 in the championship final at a Hardtke sponsored tournament at PAL Stadium in San Jose on Sept. 7, finishing with a 4-0-1 record.

The Patriots include Eric Brady, Steve Cabral, Ramiro Chapa, Bret Furtado, Ricky Garcia, Mark Hurley, Kyle Nadeau, Paul Nava, Tyler Provost, Josh Raney, Miles Sanchez, Justin Schlie, Justin Terrill, Jesse White, Josh Woida and Kyle Zozaya.

The team is coached by Jim Woida, Noel Provost and Tim Furtado.

“Everyone on the team contributed to our tournament championship,” said coach Jim Woida, via e-mail. “Our weekend was a prime example of a complete team effort. We had many individual efforts that were fantastic, but it was the teamwork our boys displayed that made me the most proud.”

The Patriots opened the tourney with a 3-2 win against the Hayward Bandits, and followed that with a 4-4 tie to the Pacifica Chaos, placing the local 18U baseball team as the 3-seed heading to the second day.

Needing to win three straight to emerge as champs, the Patriots opened the second day with a 9-1 win over Team Kado.

The Patriots then met the Chaos for a second time, but instead of tying them again, they put them away 9-6. That win placed the Patriots into the championship against the Bulldogs, which the Patriots won, 10-8.
