King City – The one positive that came out of San Benito’s loss in the NorCal Division I girls volleyball finals is that the basketball team has picked up its final players and is finally rounding into shape.

The Haybalers couldn’t crack into the win column Friday, falling to King City 43-34, but coach Al Rowe is starting to see the pieces fall into place.

“We had our first practice with everyone (Thursday),” Rowe said. “I can finally make my cuts.”

With Megan Halstead, Morgan O’Laughlin and Kelsey Jackson making their debuts, the team still struggled to get on track, but Rowe is confident the team will start to improve with more time together.

“Still everyone is just not on the same page,” Rowe said. “We haven’t had enough practice time together.”

Halstead led the way with 11 points and five rebounds. Vanessa Farias added 10 points and Brittany Soza and Elena Fata each had five.

King City’s Carolyn Madson had a game-high 18 points to lead the Mustangs.
