Weekend presentations plentiful at National Monument
PINNACLES – Pinnacles National Monument staff will be offering several programs for weekend visitors June 1-3 as part of their butterfly count weekend. The first is an evening campground program Friday, June 1 “Pinnacles Revealed,” and it serves as an orientation to the monument. The event is at the campground amphitheater at 8:30 p.m.
On Saturday, June 2, visitors can attend the “Thinking Like a Butterfly” event at Bear Gulch Visitor Center at 10:30 a.m. The stroll will explore the Bear Gulch picnic area, lower Condor Gulch and the beginning of the Moses Spring Trail. Bring water and binoculars are optional.
The second offering of the day is “The Egg” at 3 p.m. A ranger will give a 20-minute presentation about the future of the California condor at the Bear Gulch Visitor Center.
The evening presentation will again be held at the campground amphitheater at 8:30 p.m. Wildlife Biologist Paul Johnson will present “Butterfly Deams.”
On Sunday, June 3, the weekend will be rounded out with a presentation called “Pinnacles Abridged.” Ranger Michael Rupp will talk about the history of how the Pinnacles came to be and what the future holds for the rocks. The presentation will be at the Bear Gulch Visitor Center.
