United Way serving San Benito County held its first Poker Walk during the downtown Street Festival July 16.
“It raises awareness for our organization,” said Starr Wolf, the coordinator for San Benito County, in a press release. “It brought more foot traffic into our local downtown businesses and gave the participants something fun to do.”
It also brought out the volunteerism from a couple of San Benito County students. Brandon Miller, a senior at Anzar High School and his sister, Nicole, a student at Ladd Lane, asked if they could help sell poker walk tickets to the car owners on San Benito Street.
“Live United is about giving, advocating and volunteering. Brandon and Nicole definitely showed those qualities” Wolf said.
At 1:30 p.m., the cards were tallied and Virginia Quistian, of Hollister won the best hand with a flush. She took home a Kindle.
