Police arrested an 18-year-old woman from Hollister for selling pharmaceutical drugs, according to a statement released by the Hollister Police Department.
On Wednesday Aug. 26, a student who was breathing but unconscious was brought to the San Benito High School health office, according to the statement. The student regained consciousness and was eventually transported to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital.Â
Officer Juan Guevara determined the student had purchased and ingested an Alprazolam pill, commonly known as Xanax. The officer discovered evidence to identify the alleged seller as an 18-year-old Hollister resident. Guevara determined this teen didn’t have a prescription for the drug and arrested her for the sale of Xanax, as well as child endangerment.
The police department would like to make the community aware of the increasing popularity of the abuse of Xanax among juveniles, according to the statement. Regular use of Xanax can lead to addiction and users sometimes resort to selling prescription medications as a way to earn money.
Symptoms of the use of the drug include drowsiness, sedation, lack of focus, slurred speech, and confusion. Xanax is produced in multiple shapes and colors.
