Early Friday morning, police arrested a drive after a vehicle pursuit in Hollister.

According to the police statement:

On February 24, 2017 at approximately 1:15 a.m. Officer David Anderson attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of 6th Street and Monterey Street for a traffic violation. The driver of the black Honda sedan did not yield to the lights and siren and fled from the area.

Officer Anderson pursued the vehicle through several streets and eventually westbound on the 1000 block of Central Avenue where the suspect vehicle crashed into a parked car. The driver continued to evade westbound on Central Avenue after the crash with moderate damage to his car.

Officer Miguel Masso and his K9 partner Dallas joined the pursuit as the suspect drove to the south dead end of Gonzalez Drive and jumped out of his car. Officers pursued the suspect on foot as he continued through an open field and eventually jumping over the rear fence of a home.

The suspect, David Ray Hernandez (37), was taken into custody after a short struggle with officers. Hernandez was found to be on active Federal Probation from prior convictions. He was subsequently transported to the San Benito County Jail and booked for the following charges:

Felony evading police with gross disregard for public safety, possession of a concealed weapon, driving while under the influence, leaving the scene of a vehicle collision, resisting arrest and driving without a license.
