Police arrest man accused in April 25 stabbing in Hollister

Police arrested a man accused of stabbing a Hollister resident in a recent gang-related attack, and are on the lookout for a second suspect, authorities said. 

Just before midnight April 25, Hollister Police responded to a report of a stabbing on the 200 block of Elm Drive, the Hollister Police Department said in a press release. When officers arrived, they saw a 31-year-old Hollister man who had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Hollister Fire and AMR paramedics provided medical aid to the treatment before transporting him to a local trauma hospital. Police said the victim was recently reported to be in “serious but stable condition.” 

Police investigators responded to the scene and determined the incident was a gang-related attempted murder, authorities said. Jose Astorga and Eddie DeGracia were identified as suspects in the stabbing. 

Astorga, 27, was arrested by Hollister Police April 26, police said. Detectives have been following leads in their efforts to find and arrest DeGracia, but he is still at large. DeGarcia is considered armed and dangerous. 

Police said they have served multiple search warrants throughout Hollister, and drafted more than 10 additional warrants to advance the investigation. 

“The Hollister Police Department would like to thank the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office and the San Benito Specialized Investigation Unit for their assistance in locating and arresting Jose Astorga for attempted murder,” says the press release. 

Hollister PD is now asking for the public’s assistance in finding DeGracia, police said. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call law enforcement.
