The Hollister Police Department’s Animal Control Bureau is reminding dog owners in the city and county that annual licenses are due, according to an announcement.

The licenses range from $9 to $36, depending on whether the dog is fixed and its age. Annual notices have been sent to owners of licensed dogs in the city, according to the statement.

The new breed-specific ordinance requiring spaying or neutering of two dog types affects only City of Hollister residents. Additional fees and requirements may result for dog owners with the listed breeds – pit bulls and Chihuahuas – as required in the ordinance.

The San Benito County Board of Supervisors passed a new ordinance in April 2009 requiring all dogs ages four months and older residing in the unincorporated areas to be licensed.

The Hollister Police Department’s Animal Control Bureau provides services in the city as well as the unincorporated areas of the county. The Hollister Animal Control Bureau has sent notices advising county dog owners of the new requirement to license their dogs. Residents of unincorporated San Benito County should obtain their dog licenses directly from the Hollister Animal Control Bureau.

The Hollister Police Department’s Animal Control Bureau is located at 1331 South St. It is open to the public Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. Anyone with questions may call the Animal Control Bureau at (831) 636-4320.
