And another thing..
After watching the 49ers lose
– at home – to the New Orleans Aint’s by a 31-10 margin – I’d
say it’s time to end the three-year honeymoon with Mike Nolan and
go straight to divorce court.
Under Nolan’s
”
innovative
”
guidance the Niners are 31st in the NFL in points scored with
12.6 per game, dead last in total yards (220) and passing yards
(132.4), and 27th in the league in rushing with a whopping 88 a
game. And yet as I jot these MINOR details down offensive
coordinator Jim Hostler still has his job
… Go figure.

I never thought I’d say it – especially since the Niners spent $150 million in the off season to MAKE the playoffs this season – but if this team played Miami at home it would be a pick ’em game – and I’d have to give the edge to the Dolphins.
One more thought, why not consider putting Kwame Harris back on the offensive line? Maybe after the 49ers lose again this week to the 1-6 Falcons of Atlanta, someone might consider it. After all, the fans have noticed this void without Harris for several weeks now! Sure Harris was penalized a lot, but if I remember correctly Frank Gore had a lot of holes to run through and Alex Smith wasn’t getting sacked every other down. Speaking of Alex Smith, all I will say is that it’s time to draft another QB next year. Clearly, Smith peaked in college.
In news across the bay, I hear there’s a movement going on this week to try and get people to boycott this Sunday’s Raider game against the Houston Texans so that the telecast will be Silver and Blacked out in the Bay Area, allowing CBS to broadcast the Colts vs. Patriots game in its place. I’d say when you don’t want to see the home team compete it’s a clear sign that we’ve hit rock bottom in the Bay Area. Saints fans send those paper bags our way. If you send them to the Raiders, just send them as they are. If they are mailed to the fans of Frisco, just make sure they are biodegradable. By the way, I’ll say Pats beat the Colts 31-24.
Break up the Boston Red Sox. The last time they went on a run like this was at the last turn of the century. Under Terry Francona the Bo Sox are undefeated – a perfect 8-0 in World Series games. Four years ago nobody knew this guy, now he’s nearly a lock for Cooperstown.
Don’t know if you’ve heard but Kelsey “The Road Warrior” Jeffries and Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero are defending their boxing titles on Saturday night. First of all I wonder what the odds are that two people would hold a world championship belt in the same city at the same time? Then, what are the odds they would fight to defend it on the same night? Granted, Jeffries is from Hollister, but she does fight/train out of Gilroy, Guerrero’s hometown.
Just this week Jeffries was telling me how she has always looked up to Guerrero and been friends with him for nearly a decade now. She also said she would love to fight on the under card with him some night. I wonder what the odds are of that happening.
The NBA preseason got under way this week. That’s welcome news right now for Bay Area fans, who by now, are yearning to be able to root for someone other than the hapless 49ers and Raiders. Speaking of the NBA, the Boston Celtics’ new star trio of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce is on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s and ESPN the Magazine’s NBA previews, not the reigning champion Spurs. If the Celtics win it all Boston would be home to the reigning champions of baseball, more than likely football, possibly college football, basketball and perhaps even ice hockey.
Now what are the odds of that?
