Hello, is it just me or does anyone think that the special education program at Cerra Vista needs an overhaul? My experience with special ed at Cerra Vista has been a negative one, and I wish somebody could hear my frustrations. The principal will not take the time to listen to my concerns and seems to just want to tuck my daughter away. The only one that really cares has been her resource teacher that has been trying to help my child get back on track.

Cerra Vista has failed my child and because of it my child is suffering.

It pains me to see that my daughter’s report card was given by a teacher that is not teaching her and was completely negative and untrue. And the resource teacher and the others that work with her and know her the most were unable to participate and say what her strong points are. Instead, the one who has nothing to really say wrote up the report card.

It is pretty sad that my daughter’s home school is not reaching out to her and is instead just labeling her special ed. The special ed class they offer at her level is not academically challenging to her. I really wish the principal would do her job and start to recognize that you cannot just pretend there is not a problem.

I will be presenting my daughter’s case to the American with Disabilities Act for sure and informing special education specialists about the bad treatment my daughter has received. Their job is to teach my child and allow her to interact with normal children. She has excelled so well with the attention that her resource teacher has offered her. Thank goodness for her because at least somebody cares in the school.

But I also wonder how many other parents are being mislead. I am fortunate to know what my rights are. I am lucky, but how many other children is the principal letting slip through the cracks?

So, parents beware, and if you at all feel you’re being mislead and that your child is not getting the education he deserves, voice your opinion. It is time that Cerra Vista treat all children equally and not discriminate against a child that may be a little bit behind. No child deserves to be left behind.
