The San Benito County officials heard from members of the public and two spokespeople from oil interests at Tuesday’s supervisors’ meeting.

Residents spoke for nearly 45 minutes during a public comment period in regards to oil and gas well drilling in San Benito County. Supervisor Anthony Botelho had requested an agenda item to discuss the topic and provide direction to staff members. Many residents of Aromas who spoke at the meeting are in favor of a 180-day moratorium on new applications so more research can be done. Members of the oil industry opposed a moratorium.
