With all the rain over the past few weeks, the growth of pesky weeds has been inevitable in some areas. One of those was Dunne Park near downtown Hollister. It had experienced weed growth throughout the grounds and needed a good trim.
Tuesday of this week, crews from the City of Hollister Public Works Department were out cutting them down at Dunne Park, said Juan Lopez, maintenance worker 2 for the department. He said the crews had gotten a bit behind on weed abatement due to the extraordinary amount of rain in March. He noted how it can be counterintuitive to spray the weeds with chemicals because the rain washes them away.
Lopez said the city’s public works department heads out regularly to areas of primary concern with weeds, such as along San Felipe Road by the airport, along Meridian Road, and by Prospect Avenue behind Rancho San Justo Middle School. Lopez had hopes the work at Dunne Park would be done Tuesday.
