San Juan Bautista’s second annual Chicken Festival and Parade is this weekend, with some new events as well as others from last year.

Last year, the festival was one day, and this year it will be two, both Saturday and Sunday.

New events include a jump house, dance group performances, chicken bingo, wine tasting, karaoke and chicken dance contest. Participants can also enjoy arts and crafts booths, an exotic chicken display, a fashion show and a kids craft zone.

Three contestants will be in the running to win the Chicken Queen crown. San Juan Bautista Chamber of Commerce Board Member Margot Tankersley said the three girls were chosen by how many raffle tickets they sold, a two-minute speech on chickens and a personal interview.

Tankersley said the winner will receive a $750 scholarship, first runner-up will get a $250 scholarship and third place will receive a $150 scholarship. The Chicken Queen contest was sponsored by DMB El Rancho San Benito, she said.

The Chicken Bar-B-Q will be noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, and the parade will be 11 a.m. Sunday.

The proceeds from the event will go toward the San Juan Bautista Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call 623-9262 or go to
