The American Red Cross Hollister Office of the American Red Cross Monterey Bay Chapter is planning a kick off on Jan. 7, “Sleeves up, hearts open, all in.”

Residents will have a chance to see what’s new in the Hollister office, discover volunteer opportunities and plan activities designed to grow preparedness and resiliency in the community.

97 percent of the work down by the Red Cross is done by volunteers.

Potential opportunities:

• Join the committed team of people who prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of disaster.

• Participate in training to prepare your family and friends to care for themselves in the face of disaster.

• Help organize blood drives throughout our community.

• Support the armed forces and participate in activities like Holiday Mail for Heroes.

• Keep the office staffed and functioning smoothly.

• Learn how to give preparedness presentations.

• Take a life-saving class, or better yet, learn how to train others.

• Become involved with Red Cross humanitarian efforts around the globe.
