Editor,
For the past 18 months I’ve stood by, nothing more than an uninvolved observer, wondering who was actually telling the truth about District Attorney John Sarsfield.
I have to be honest a few months ago when reporter Erin Musgrave broke the story about the plight of the Santos family, like most people, I took the family’s side. A couple of months ago Ms. Musgrave broke the story of Sarsfield’s special agent who was passing himself off as a police officer, carrying a gun and badge. I thought to myself, “what the heck was he thinking?” A month ago when Ms. Musgrave broke the story about the investigation summery, I took the side of the two women but still chose to stay on the sidelines as an uninvolved observer.
It wasn’t until recently that I decided to step into the fracas. Based solely on Sarsfield’s venomous op-ed pieces in both the Free Lance and Pinnacle along with letters to the editors and columns written by what some claim are his “minions,” I say “enough is enough.”
They made reference and comparisons to the KKK, terrorists, homophobes and made allegations of criminal wrongdoing by people I’ve learned did nothing more than have the audacity to disagree with our district attorney.
First, the only homophobic rhetoric I’ve read came from Sarsfield himself when he attacked poor Mr. Santos’ character.
Secondly, KKK? Who’s actually using the secret grand jury for his very own personal vendetta?
Mr. Sarsfield and his toadies have chosen to attack and smear rather than address the actual allegations against him. All of you should be ashamed of yourself and you, Mr. Sarsfield, should step down.
I encourage anyone with a complaint against the district attorney to take it to the civil grand jury and request an investigation. If serious enough, you can save the community the expense of a recall election by asking that the civil grand jury remove him from office. Let’s be done with this.
