A public hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 5 after which the San Benito County Board of Supervisors is set to consider repealing a recent zoning change for the Spur Hotel proposal in Tres Pinos.

County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson today confirmed that a public hearing to consider repealing the related ordinance is set for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at the County Administration Building, 481 Fourth St. But Thompson and other officials are declining to comment on why the ordinance might be repealed and whether it could hurt the project’s chances for eventual approval.

Supervisors approved a zoning change for the controversial, 44-unit hotel project Oct. 24 on a 3-2 vote. They did so while forgoing a full environmental impact report – a move challenged in a lawsuit filed in December by a group calling itself the Friends of Tres Pinos.

The project’s developer, John Eade, also declined to comment today on the issue, citing the litigation over the proposal.

Thompson said a report will be compiled by staff and available to the public Feb. 1. If approved, the Spur Hotel would be located at the corner of Southside Road and Highway 25.
