Ridgemark Golf Course head professional Mitch Thomas is one step closer to playing in a $100,000-purse golf tournament in Florida with 120 top golfers from around the world.
Thomas finished in fifth place out of the field of 26 in the Northern California National Assistants Championship Qualifier at Ridgemark on Monday with a score of 1-over 145 (72-73). The winner finished with a score of 139, and the second-place finisher had a 142.
As a result, he is the first alternate to attend the National Assistants Championship in October. He hopes to find out next month if someone drops out of the competition.
“I didn’t play that well,” said Thomas, who usually finishes even or under par on his home course. “If I could have putted better, I would have done better.”
Chris Brannon, the assistant pro at Ridgemark, scored a 156 (80-76). And Jerreo Grow, the other Hollister competitor, had a score of 147 (72-75).
The golfers played Gabilan in the morning then Diablo in the afternoon.
