Supporters of a half-cent countywide sales tax to support road improvements raised nearly $17,500 through April 23, with most of the funds coming from road builders, according to campaign finance records filed with the elections office.
“Repair Our Roads, Yes on Measure P” supporters raised $16,976 through the latest campaign finance filing period before the June 7 election. The group had spent $12,500 in the same period, from Jan. 1 through April 23, according to the records filed before the April 28 deadline.
No official opposition group was listed in county elections office records.
As for the largest donations to the yes side, they came from two road builders. Salinas-based Don Chapin Co. and Watsonville-based Graniterock each donated $5,000 to the effort. A late contribution of $2,500 came in from Silicon Valley Leadership Group.
On the expense end of things, all of the $12,500 in spending went toward San Francisco-based TBWB Strategies, according to the filings.
There is broad support among government, business and nonprofit leaders for the measure. It would generate an estimate of $240 million over 30 years, with half of the funds going toward Highway 25 and the other half toward local road improvements.
