Once again, the San Benito golf team had a strong showing but, again, Palma stood in their way. The Balers took second place in the Monterey Bay League’s Gabilan Division, carding a 212 to Palma’s 194 at Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey.

Ryan Han led the Balers, shooting a 3-over 39. Greg Moreno and John German carded a 42 for the Balers.

With the second place finish, San Benito will play Alvarez for a spot in the Central Coast Section playoffs on May 14.

“Right now, we are still a few strokes away from where we need to be,” SBHS head coach Reggie Synegal said. “We are still battling some inner stuff but we can fix that.”

SBHS softball

Behind six strong innings from Megan Sabbatini, the San Benito softball team ran away from Salinas in a 10-0 victory Tuesday.

Sabbatini struck out eight batters, while limiting the Cowboys to only two hits.

Meanwhile, San Benito struck for 10 runs, finishing the game Wednesday morning with two runs in the sixth inning. Cassidy Heen knocked in three runs for San Benito in the victory. Adriana Ibarra and Sabbatini each knocked in one.

The Balers host Gilroy at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

SBHS Volleyball

The San Benito volleyball team swept Alisal on Tuesday to improve to 17-7 on the season. The Balers earned the victory by winning 25-22, 25-18, 25-21. The Balers travel to Gilroy at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

SBHS Baseball

Christopher High’s baseball team held San Benito to two hits on its way to a stunning 2-1 upset of the first-place Balers on Tuesday in Hollister.

Makaio Duyao was the winning pitcher and Jim Hagan picked up the save for the Cougars, who improved to 6-13-1 overall and 4-7 in the Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division.

Tyler Fhurong and Ralphy Ortega scored in the sixth inning for Christopher, and teammate Brennan Wilson finished with two hits.

San Benito fell to 16-4 overall and 9-2 in the MBL Gabilan Division.
