The San Benito girls swim team continued its undefeated league season Wednesday, defeating rival Gilroy 115-55 in Hollister. The boys team also won, blowing away the Mustangs 123-39.

Key contributors including Rachel Estep, who just missed out on a Central Coast Section time in the backstroke. Estep also combined with Hayley Larson, Gracie Larson and Caitlin Schafer to win the 200 medley relay in commanding fashion. Michele Benito swam a personal best in the 200 meter I.M. to earn the victory.

Gus Spurzem also swam a personal best in the 100 meter fly, breaking one minute.

“We are doing okay right now,” SBHS head coach Christine Schafer said. “They are working hard right now.”

SBHS Golf

For the third time this season, the Balers golf team finished behind Palma during a Monterey Bay League tournament at Laguna Seca on Wednesday.

The Balers finished six shots behind Palma to finish in second place.

Greg Moreno led the Balers, shooting a 37. Ryan Han finished with a score of 38. Nick Caputo and freshman Josiah Martinez carded a 40 to round out the Baler scoring.

“We are very exciting,” SBHS head coach Reggie Synegal said. “Right now, we are having a lot of fun and it’s exciting.”
