The Balers continued their dominant start to the 2012 season, defeating North Salinas in both the girls and boys competitions on Friday.

Behind a record-setting day from Quinn Six, the boys defeated the Vikings 126-37.

Six recorded a Central Coast Section qualifying time with a 55.57 in the 100 backstroke. The time was good enough to beat his own school record by nearly 20 seconds.

“It was a great meet,” coach Christine Schafer said. “Quinn swam great.”

The girls also swam well, defeating North Salinas 131-34. The Balers, though, did not record a CCS qualifying time.

“We had some good times, but we had no other CCS times,” she said. “We decided to mix things up and see some good races between them.”

The Balers focused on their depth instead of sending the best possible swimmers in each competition, Schafer said.

“We will do that at the end of the year, but right now we just want to see everyone improve and other stuff,” she said.

The Balers continue their season at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Alisal High School.
