The San Benito High cross country team earned three all-league selections following the Tri-County Athletic League Championships at Salinas’ Toro Park in late October.

Lady Balers Rachel Shimabukuro and Dayna Casillas earned all-league consideration after they both recorded times in the top-10 at the TCAL Championships. Shimabukuro was fourth overall with a 19:30, while Casillas placed ninth at 20:31.

For the Baler boys, Jose Castillo recorded a 16:34 at TCALs to take fourth place overall. The San Benito junior earned all-league honors as a result.

Last week, at the Central Coast Section Cross Country Championships, Shimabukuro, Casillas and Castillo each improved upon their TCAL times while running at Belmont’s Crystal Springs Cross Country Course.

Shimabukuro broke 19 minutes with an 18:51, while Casillas shed more than 30 seconds off her previous time with a 19:56. Castillo, meanwhile, recorded a 16:13.

The senior Shimabukuro, though, will continue her cross country campaign this weekend at the CIF State Cross Country Championships, held at Fresno’s Woodward Park. Shimabukuro is scheduled to run at 11:45 a.m.
