Lady ‘Balers tennis defeats Everett Alvarez Tuesday, 5-2
SALINAS

The San Benito girls tennis team bounced back from Monday’s loss and remained perfect in league as they defeated host Everett Alvarez 5-2 Tuesday in Salinas.

The Lady ‘Balers are now 4-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League and 10-2 overall. They’ll host rival Salinas in what should be the biggest match of the season to date at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister on Thursday.

On Tuesday, San Benito’s doubles teams swept the Eagles in order to preserve the victory. At No. 1, Crystal Perreira and Marisa Ibarra won 6-1, 6-4 over Tempestt Edward and Mariah Vega, and at No. 2 Rachel Smith and Lauren Ademek beat Tiffany Huynh and Anna Vega 7-5, 6-1. At No. 3, Jessica Vest and Erin Glasspool defeated Brianna Gonzalez and Christina Wong 7-6, 4-6 and 10-3 in the third-set tiebreaker.

In singles, Amanda Marshall defeated Charleen Speer 6-0, 6-1 for San Benito, while teammate Abbie Woods did the same by beating Gabby Quincero 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Eagle Stephanie Rahiri won her match over Bri Ahumada-Wolfsmith 7-6, 6-4, while Bebeppe Castro defeated San Benito’s Kristina Slavich 3-6, 6-2 and 10-2 in the tiebreaker.

San Benito will host Salinas Thursday at 4 p.m.
