Haybalers play tough, but lose 4-2
The San Benito boys soccer team battled with Alisal Thursday early on, but the first-place Trojans scored two goals in the second half and defeated the Haybalers 4-2.

“They came at us pretty strong,” coach Ben Alvarez said. “I don’t have a problem losing to a good team. Of all the teams we’ve played, they’re the toughest.”

The Trojans improve to 5-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League, 8-1-2 overall. San Benito falls to 2-3 in the TCAL, 4-4-2.

Josh Flores put the ‘Balers on the board in the 34th minute after stealing the ball from Alisal’s keeper. In the 48th minute, San Benito managed to tie the game at 2-2 when Efrain Espinoza set up Flores for a breakaway goal.

From there, however, the Trojans changed their formation, and put two more goals on the scoreboard before the final whistle.

Alvarez noted the play of his keepers, Edgar Fernandez and Christian Maravilla.

San Benito will return to the pitch Tuesday to host Salinas at 3:30 p.m.
