San Jose – Playing against the private powerhouse in Presentation, the San Benito Lady ‘Balers fell 3-1 on Thursday night in non-league action.

After defeating Homestead on Tuesday, San Benito wrapped up a busy week that began with the Milpitas Spikefest last weekend.

On Thursday, though, Presentation won in four games 25-21, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-19.

“We played really well,” Coach Dean Askanas said. “They’re a very experienced team and are very tough, but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Emily Kortsen had a team-high 18 kills on the night, and added 13 digs. Teammate Bri Romero had 14 digs, while Samantha Klauer supplied 12 digs and Shayna Nakata contributed seven. Said Askanas, “We played well on defense.

“[Presentation] led a very fast-paced offense. It was a great experience for us and I’d love to play them again.”

Earlier this week, at the Milpitas Spikefest, the Lady ‘Balers fell to Presentation 2-0.

The Lady ‘Balers defeated Carlmont at the Spikefest, though, and will host them on Tuesday at Mattson Gym at 5:30pm.

“They’re going to be tough,” the coach said of Carlmont. “They have some exceptionally good players.”
