Seaside – Playing shorthanded while it awaits the conclusion of the cross country and volleyball seasons, the San Benito girls basketball team fell to Seaside 70-30 on the road Tuesday.

“Seaside kind of took it to us,” coach Al Rowe said. “We kept up with them for about a quarter and a half. There’s six girls not with us right now because of volleyball and cross country. We’re really small and really inexperienced at this time.”

Vanessa Farias led the way for the ‘Balers (0-2) with nine points. Elena Fata and Brittany Soza both added three and Jayme Telles grabbed five rebounds for San Benito, which shot 9 of 15 from the free-throw line.

The team played with only eight girls suited up and Rowe won’t be making final roster decisions until the conclusion of the fall sports.

“They’re learning. It’s a good experience for those who are out there.”
