Watsonville – The San Benito Lady ‘Balers battled the cold, Monte Vista Christian and the Spring Hills Golf Course on Thursday, and managed to come out on top in the dual meet.
The Lady ‘Balers compiled a team score of 215 at Spring Hills, comfortably ahead of MVC’s 256.
Although San Benito’s team score of 215 was higher than their 190 at the Salinas Fairways Golf Course on Tuesday, or the 182 they carded on Sept. 27 against Watsonville, coach Chris Branon said the course at Spring Hills is a difficult one that will teach lessons in golf management.
“They played a hard golf course,” said Branon of Spring Hills, which measures 2,688 yards. “This one will make your jaw drop – real small greens, it’s undulated all over the place and real narrow fairways. It’s a challenging little par-71 golf course.”
Lady ‘Baler Marissa Gutierrez still managed to medal the round, shooting a 46 on the par 35 front nine. Katie O’Brien shot a 52, Katie Moeller recorded a 66, Alexis Sanchez carded a 62, Lashea Dailey rounded out with a 59 and Jordan Davies finished the day with a 58.
“It’s a challenging golf course, and you better be prepared for a golf course like that,” Branon said.
MVC only competed with five players and saw Lauren Umhaooto shoot a 60, while Anita Huang finished with a team-low of 59. Recnu Tut finished the front nine with a 69, Celia Hsu had a 73, and Tina Lin finished with a 64.
The Lady ‘Balers will compete in group play on Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club at 3pm. Teams slated to attend are Gilroy, Live Oak, Everett Alvarez and Salinas.
