Salinas – The San Benito Lady ‘Balers made it lucky number seven on Thursday, as in seven straight wins to start their 2007 fall season campaign.

San Benito won 6-1 against host North Salinas, and remained undefeated on the year at 7-0 overall, 3-0 in the Tri-County Athletic League.

“The singles players performed really well,” coach Ed Cecena said. “They didn’t waste any time. They got out, they did their thing, and got off the court.”

No. 1 singles player Amanda Marshall defeated North Salinas’ Laura Sanchez 6-0, 6-4, while Lady ‘Baler Yumi Chang upended Claudia Sanchez 6-3, 6-0.

Viking Jenny Jijing narrowly defeated Kaitlyn O’Keefe 4-6, 6-2 (10-4), but San Benito’s Abby Woods returned the favor by beating Grace Franco 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Crystal Perreira and Marisa Ibarra took the No. 1 spot Thursday and wound up defeating Renee Musgrove and Betty Bernal 6-1, 6-2. Teammates Rachel Smith and Lauren Ademek also took their match, beating North Salinas’ Liz Torrez and Noemi Zuniga 6-2, 6-2. Rounding out the doubles teams, newcomers Chelsea Yoakum and Vanessa Sasalegno defeated Vikings Rosa Perez and Alex Kemp 6-1, 6-0.

“It was a good opportunity to give some of the other doubles teams some experience,” Cecena said.

San Benito will return home after three straight away matches to host Alvarez on Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. The match is slated for 3:30pm.
