A San Jose woman was seriously injured and her husband sustained minor injuries Sunday in a motorcycle accident on Airline Highway.

Kathy Lawrence, 48, of San Jose was taken by helicopter to a trauma unit at San Jose Medical Center where she is being treated for a possible fractured pelvis and cuts and scrapes to the left side of her body, the California Highway Patrol said.

Her husband, Stephen Lawrence, 49, of San Jose was treated at the scene for minor injuries and released to seek his own medical care, the CHP said.

The pair were injured in a 12:10 p.m. accident on Airline Highway just north of the Highway 146 entrance to Pinnacles National Monument, the CHP said.

Stephen Lawrence was southbound on Airline Highway riding a 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle at about 30 mph with his wife as his passenger, the CHP said.

As the pair approached a curve in the road, the motorcycle drifted off the road and skidded out of control, then overturned and ejected the couple, the CHP said.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in the crash and both of the riders were wearing helmets, the CHP said.

The accident is still under investigation.
